Hedgehog City

This formed part of my second year project at university. I was looking at creating a wordless series of images. Exploring the idea of telling a story through image sequences. I used a combination of 3D models, photographic layers and painted layers. This page shows Mr Hedgehog with his home on his back moping off to start his journey in the rain

The rocky city hanging from the top of the piece was going to be the underside of a mountain goat coat!

Whaley

Here is a whaley image...It's meant to be seaweed city in his mouth... Not yet finished, it's missing my hedgehog model in it... Am thinking of ways to make the seaweed city appear more city like...Maybe beacons? Different coloured lights? Don't want to make to too complicated though!

Exploring and Developing Practice

This is my last 2nd year project at uni... It is loosely based on the J. G. Ballard short story 'Low Flying Aircraft'.

SUMMARY
Everyone has had to move out of the cities as fossil fuels are running out. People understand that they are destroying their own way of life so return to agriculture far away from the cities. The character Holloway is curious about the city, as he has been brought up far away. He visits and reinvents the city. However, the city gets destroyed for the exact same reasons it was abandoned in the first place. It is basically the life cycle of the city and of Holloway. Oh yeah, I swapped Holloway for a pigeon :)

The characters in the images are 3D models. Combination of collage, paint and photography merged in Photoshop. The final images were printed onto postcards and displayed into a concertina folder.

Moulin Rouge Model

So in 2nd year, I focused on the Moulin Rouge. The final piece was quite a rough thing-more of an idea then a finished complete piece. It was a card model of the Moulin Rouge, the windmill part used the idea of a zoetrope. This didn't work amazingly, but people got the jist! Anyway, the bits I really liked were the screenprinted paper people I had on the inside of this model. It was almost like a doll's house. Anyway, see for yourself. See if you can see Toulouse Lautrec!

Image and Ob Project

Yay all finished :)

My project was based on Cheddar and the idea that people are only sugary noice to you to get at your money! I based it on a poem I wrote about it called 'Shoplady' and the result is a concertina book. I experimented a lot with texture, lots of bubblewrap, newsprint, textured and patterned paper! Looking back, I wasn't too happy with all the spreads, so I have only put images of the ones I am happy with on here! If I were to do it again, I would change a lot of things, first thing would be the typography!

Drawing From Life

These are from Esmé's life drawing classes. Acrylic paints, palette knives and one line drawings! I absolutely love life drawing.
One line drawing without looking at the paper! Quite an achievement!
